The luxury car segment of the automobile industry has been the playing ground for German carmakers including Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. These brands are always in the must-have lists of SUV aficionados. British brand Jaguar hopes to end this monopoly with the upcoming E-Pace, which was spied recently in northern Europe.
The crossover version of the XE Sedan will roll out of production floor later this year. Initial reports reveal that the vehicle will be powered by a 2L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that can churn out 240hp. This feature poses a challenge to the Audi Q3 and BMW X1.
The car's proportions reveal that it might be based on a front- and all-wheel drive platform. Previous spy photos made many surmised that the SUV would use a version of the D8 platform, which underpins the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport.
The 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines are from Jaguar's Ingenium family. The all-steel D8 platform promises a cheaper and more space efficient car. This platform is also related to the previous generation Ford Mondeo, as well as the Volvo S60, V60, V70, and S80.
According to Carscoops, the E-Pace may have the same hybrid powertrain to be installed by JLR on the Land Rover Discovery Sport. The car's design will be highlighted by flowing body lines, a sloping roofline, and front grille.
Audi Q3 and BMW X1 boast of onboard technologies that are loved by many SUV enthusiasts. Jaguar will challenge its German rivals by equipping its car with the latest InControl Touch Pro infotainment system.
Jaguar needs to play its cards well with the E-Pace by having the right interior design and driving technologies. This will posit the British automaker as the next go-to luxury car brand. The E-Pace will follow the official debut of the Range Rover Coupe at the Geneva Motor Show.
