Computer maker Lenovo is launching a new tablet later this month that is being touted by a familiar household name.
Actor Ashton Kutcher was tapped as a product engineer for the computer manufacturer a year ago and helped design its Yoga Tablet 2 Pro, which will be introduced this coming week.
Even though Apple is planning to release a new iPad lineup in October, Kutcher isn't worried that the Cupertino, Calif.-based company will crowd Lenovo out of the tablet market.
"Not at all," Kutcher told the Wall Street Journal. "I'm not concerned about it in the least bit. Maybe it will be an iPhone Plus Plus. I think Apple has their fingers in a lot of things. We are really focused on this space and this product. I will be really surprised if they launch anything that approaches what we have here."
The actor who played Steve Jobs in the 2013 biopic says the Lenovo tablet will stand out when it comes to sound.
"With the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro we took it a step further and realized we needed to make this a great entertainment device," Kutcher told the Journal. "We wanted to build a tablet with the best sound of any tablet in the world--we fit in a subwoofer and an 8-watt speaker. No need for Bluetooth speakers or setting your phone in a cup--it just works."
Developing a hand-assembled hinge allowed Lenovo engineers to produce a tablet that is thinner and 14 percent lighter than the previous model, PCWorld.com reported. Lenovo claims the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro has nine hours of battery life.
The Yoga Tablet 2 lineup runs the Android platform and will include an 8-inch option for $249, 10-inch for $299 and a 13-inch "Pro" version for $499, according to the Journal.
