A company responsible for making after-market floor mats for General Motors full-size SUVs and pickup trucks is recalling more than 45,000 of them because they can interfere with gas pedals.
Omix Ada of Suwannee, Georgia, confirmed to the Associated Press that the recall covers Cabela's Custom Fit, Line-X Truck Gear, Rugged Ridge All-Terrain and Tread Lightly mats.
The company said the mats were made from Nov. 1, 2009 to Aug. 27, 2014, and most were sold at O'Reilly Auto Parts stores.
There is a chance the mats can move forward unintentionally and stop the gas pedal from returning to the idle position, increasing the risk of a crash.
Omix Ada said it will furnish an anchor-and-hook system to fix the issue, according to the Associated Press. It should take no more than 10 minutes for customers of affected vehicles to install it themselves.
Those who don't want to install it themselves can take their vehicles to a service center.
The mats fit Chevrolet and GMC trucks and SUVs manufactured in 1999 through 2014.
Mats were redesigned by the company to add hooks in the first quarter of 2014. So far Omix Ada has received three consumer complaints about older mats touching the bottom of the gas pedal.
No crashes or injures have been reported yet, said Engineering Manager Alain Eboli.
Wholesale customers will be notified this month, along with as "many mat owners as possible," according to AP.
