American Airlines has partnered with Cadillac to offer a high-end chauffeur service for ConciergeKey club members.
The program follows in the footsteps of similar collaborations between United Airlines and Mercedes-Benz as well as Delta and Porsche, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The chauffeured rides will take premium travelers to their connecting flights. Membership in the ConcergieKey club, a requirement to use the new Cadillac service, is by invitation-only.
"It's not a request service," Suzanne Rubin, president of AAdvantage loyalty program, said of the Cadillac partnership. "It's a high-touch service for those incredibly valuable passengers."
Cadillac additionally plans to offer frequent flier points to members for test-driving its vehicles as part of the new program. Members will be able to earn 7,500 AAdvantage miles for test-driving a new Cadillac at a dealership.
The AAdvantage service has already launched at Los Angeles International Airport and is coming soon to LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy International airports in New York as well as to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, which is American Airlines' home base.
"We're thrilled with this partnership that brings two iconic American brands together, both focused on improving the customer experience," Rubin told a Forbes contributor.
Since Cadillac is GM's luxury brand, offering rides in its vehicles to big-spending travelers seems to be a natural fit.
"This is an opportunity to bring similar populations together and create a single brand experience," said Rubin, as quoted by Forbes. "We're excited that it extends beyond the tarmac to marketing in the airport where our customers can be in an American Airlines environment and see Cadillac products that are reflective of the image that we're purporting. It's also another unique way for us to extend value."
The partnership could also be part of GM's push to boost the Cadillac brand, which plans to launch a new top-of-the-line model next year. The luxury line is moving to new headquarters in New York, leaving behind its current home base at the Renaissance Center in Detroit. The new Soho office should open in the second quarter of 2015.
