Apple received a record four million first-day pre-orders of its new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices, which means a number of customers will have to wait until October before getting their phones.
The company said a "significant number" of orders will be delivered to customers starting this Friday, but some won't be shipped until October as demand outstrips supply.
The first-day pre-orders for the new devices were double the two million orders for iPhone 5 phones back in 2012.
"We attribute this (pre-order numbers) to the large pent-up demand for larger screens on the iPhone ...," Janney Capital Markets analysts wrote in a note about the phones, which feature larger screens, according to Reuters.
Capital Markets raised its unit sales estimate for the newest iPhones to 37.4 million for the fourth quarter and 60 million for the first quarter.
Though Apple didn't confirm first-day pre-orders for iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c launched in 2013, it sold 9 million of those devices in the first three days at stores as China joined the list of launch countries for the first time ever.
New iPhone devices will be available on Friday morning to customers in its stores in the U.S., Australia, and Canada.
Providers like AT&T Inc, Sprint Corp, T-Mobile US Inc and Verizon Wireless and other select Apple authorized resellers will also start selling the phones on Sept. 19.

While the wait time for the 5.5-inch "Plus" device now show a wait time of up to a month, the 4.7-inch version remains available for delivery on Sept. 19.
"Response to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus has been incredible, with a record number of pre-orders overnight. Pre-orders are currently available online or through the Apple Store App," spokeswoman Trudy Muller said, according to Reuters.
