The latest Ford Mustang model actually has fuel economy that is weaker than its predecessor's, according to an Edmunds.com report.
The 2015 Mustang running on a V6 engine gets approximately 3 miles per gallon less than last year's version. EPA figures say that the 2015 model equipped with a 3.7-liter V6 and a six-speed automatic transmission gets 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, which compares with the 2014 V6 Mustang's highway rating of 31 mpg with the automatic transmission.
The latest model equipped with a six-speed manual transmission returns 17 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway.
The 2015 Mustang GT is also down from last year's model, returning an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The 2014 version had a rating of 18 mpg for city driving and 25 mpg for highway.
The best fuel economy in the new Mustang lineup comes from the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, which pairs with the six-speed automatic transmission for 21 mpg in city driving and 32 mpg on the highway.
While lower fuel economy is never good news, at least gas prices are down for now. A gallon of unleaded gas costs $3.39 on average, down from $3.52 year-over-year, Edmunds reported via the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
The new Mustang with a 3.7-liter V6 engine starts at $24,425, including an $825 shipping charge. The model competes with the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger, Hyundai Genesis Coupe and Nissan 370Z.
