Good news, New Yorkers: GetTaxi is offering a flat $10 car fare for a trip anywhere in Manhattan as it continues to compete with Uber and other ride-sharing services.
In force until the end of this year, the $10 rate covers any trips entirely in Manhattan and doesn't place limits on how many rides one person can take; however, any journeys more than an hour long will cost extra, Bloomberg News reported. Tips are also not included in the $10 fee.
Even rides from "Harlem to Wall Street" will be covered by the $10 flat rate, the company said.
"We are really excited about this deal," Gett's head of marketing Brooke Moreland told the New York Post. "We want to draw attention to the fact that we always have flat rates," she said.
Based in Tel Aviv, GetTaxi operates as Gett in the U.S. and launched its New York service after a $150 million funding round in August that brought its fundraising total past $210 million. Its rival Uber, which started in San Francisco and has spread worldwide, earned a $17 billion valuation in June, while fellow car-sharing service Lyft has raised $250 million from investors.
App-based car service startups have been competing by bringing their prices lower and lower, but Gett has said that lower rates won't affect the drivers' pay.
"[W]e want to always have the lowest prices possible, but not at the expense of our drivers, who we care about and consider our partners," a Gett spokesperson told VentureBeat.
