General Motors has announced that the 2015 GMC Acadia SUV recently earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The SUV earned five stars in both the side and front crash tests. It earned four stars in the rollover crash tests.
NHTSA said the rating applies for the all-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive versions of the Acadia.
The rating also applies to the 2015 GMC Acadia Denali, according to the automaker.
Cross-traffic alert and side blind-zone alert are both standard features on the Acadia Denali and SLT-2, according to GM.
Five stars is the highest rating a vehicle can receive in a crash test by the NHTSA.
Featured standard safety equipment found on the new Acadia includes:
-antilock brakes
-electronic stability control
-rearview camera.
The 2015 GMC Acadia SUV competes for sales with vehicles like the Dodge Durango, Toyota Highlander, and Honda Pilot, among others.
In comparison, the 2015 Toyota Highlander also earned a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.
The 2015 Honda Pilot received a four-star overall safety rating and the 2015 Dodge Durango has not been rated yet by the NHTSA.
At press time, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2015 Acadia.
