Kia offered a first look at the redesigned 2016 Kia Sorento crossover on Sunday before its official launch scheduled for the upcoming 2014 Paris Auto Show.
The automaker said the 2016 version has a "more mature appearance" compared with the 2015 Sorento, Edmunds.com reported. Its styling elements, which include a "tiger-nose grille," reflect the Kia Cross GT concept from the 2013 Chicago Auto Show.
"The new model boasts a lower roofline, higher beltline, more muscular stance, rounded shoulders at the rear and deeply sculpted body surfaces," Kia said in a recent statement quoted by Edmunds.
The revamped Sorento, which will be roomier to better accommodate passengers, will feature new technology for both safety and convenience, according to Kia. The South Korean automaker hasn't yet released more details.
The 2016 Kia Sorento is intended to compete with the Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Edge, Honda Pilot, Toyota RAV4 and similar crossovers, Edmunds reported.
Kia has not yet announced pricing or launch details for the new Sorento.
The 2015 Kia Sorento runs on either an all-aluminum 3.3-liter GDI V6 producing 290 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque or a 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder engine generating 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque.
The Paris Motor Show is planned for Oct. 4-19.
