Facebook has announced that it will be ending support for messages sent through its mobile app, meaning users all over the world will have to download the "Messenger" app to chat with their friends.
The social media company will remove chat capabilities from its main app in the coming days and will force Android and iOS users to use the standalone software for such services, according to a report by TechCrunch.
"In the next few days, we're continuing to notify more people that if they want to send and receive Facebook messages, they'll need to download the Messenger app," said Facebook in a statement regarding the news. "As we've said, our goal is to focus development efforts on making Messenger the best mobile messaging experience possible and avoid the confusion of having separate Facebook mobile messaging experiences."
Facebook claims Messenger is 20 percent faster than sending and receiving messages through the main Facebook mobile app.
Some people may not like the news, especially those who use Chat Heads to multitask while in the flagship Facebook app.
Recently, Facebook released a new version of its Messenger app for the iPad.
"Messenger is used by more than 200 million people every month, and we'll keep working to make it an even more engaging way to connect with people," Facebook said.
The app is available as a free 39MB download on the App Store now.
