The 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth hatchback with the new optional six-speed automatic transmission has been listed for a base price of $24,295, including a destination fee of $850.
The 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth Cabrio with the six-speed automatic transmission was also announced on June 23. The vehicle is available for $28,295, including shipping, said Chrysler spokesman Ariel Gavlin, according to Edmunds.
Chrysler's new Aisin AW6F25 six-speed automatic transmission is an option to the standard five-speed manual transmission on the cars.
It is mated to a 157-horsepower 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo four-cylinder engine.
The transmission comes with a "Sport mode calibration" that "allows for an even more engaged driving experience with special features such as fuel-cut upshifts, rev-matching downshifts, brake-assist downshifts, corner gear hold and fast-off gear hold, as well as a more aggressive pedal map," Chrysler said in a statement, according to the release.
The Fiat 500 Abarth competes with a number of other high-performance small vehicles, like the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST hatchback, which is offered with a six-speed manual transmission.
In comparison, the 2014 Fiesta ST goes for $22,225, including an $825 shipping fee.
Production for the two vehicles started on June 23. The vehicles are expected to arrive at dealerships sometime this July.
