Toyota is recalling 10,500 Lexus GS 350 sedans from the 2013 model year in the U.S. for problems with the brake-pedal assembly that could cause the brakes to activate on their own.
The automaker has not received reports of any accidents, injuries or fatalities related to the issue, Edmunds.com reported.
"The brake-pedal assembly in the subject vehicles contains a brake-pedal load-sensing switch which allows the brake system to detect brake-pedal force application by the driver," Toyota said in a statement quoted by Edmunds.
"Due to a manufacturing error, there is a possibility that the switch could improperly cause the brake system to activate without driver input while driving and without activating the rear brake lights. This could result in unexpected moderate deceleration."
Lexus hasn't yet set a date for the recall, which will allow dealerships to replace the brake-pedal support assembly on the affected models. While waiting to be notified, concerned owners can contact Lexus at 1-800-255-3987.
2014 has been a big year for recalls, most notably when General Motors recalled nearly 2.6 million small cars for defective ignition switches that have been related to 13 deaths.
While GM has had around 15 million recalled vehicles so far, Toyota has had the biggest recall total with a recall for 6.4 million cars in April for five potential safety issues.
The announcement, which comprises 27 Toyota models dating back to 2005, marks one of the biggest recalls in industry history, Bloomberg reported at the time.
