Photos of a supposedly leaked LED backlight for the next iPhone display reached the web this weekend.
A set of three photos were leaked from Chinese microblogging site Sina Weibo, which was then picked up by a French blog called nowehreelse.fr.
"I would first like to say that I am absolutely not able to ensure the reliability of the source and so to say that this panel backlight is indeed intended to be slipping behind the screen of iPhone 6," reads the French site. "Having said that, the fact that its design is identical to that of the panel found in the iPhone 5s suggests that it is probably a genuine spare part for iPhone."
The author of the post claims the backlight was designed to fit behind a 4.7-inch display, and is extremely similar to past designs for Apple products like the iPhone 5S and 5C.
There are a number of differences between the supposed backlight and the current replacement parts.
"Sure, we could just be facing an backlight panel for iPhone 5s but this is clearly not the case," reads the nowehreelse.fr website. "As you may realize by yourself through the small comparative mounting above, the design and positioning of the connector of this component differs slightly from one room to another. We mainly observed that the record of the panel that is supposed to have been designed for the iPhone 6 is a little shorter than the panel of the iPhone 5s and it is slightly eccentric."
Photos released on May 23 are the second set of supposed iPhone production parts leaked to the web by Sina Weibo. The first set of photos were of a front cover panel unveiled back in April.
In the April photos, the component could be seen next to an iPhone 5S for scale.
Apple has not commented on the photos yet, meaning there is a chance the photos have nothing to do with the next Apple device.
Another rumor leaked last week claiming that Apple has supposedly picked Taiwanese LCD manufacturer Innolux to supply 4.7-inch displays for its next iPhone.
The rumor was leaked by Taiwanese newspaper UDN.
If true, Innoluz would then join Japan Display Corporation and LG Display as the suppliers of the 4.7-inch screens for Apple's next iPhone device.
Apple's next iPhone is expected to be called the iPhone 6.
The iPhone 6 is likely come with a faster A8 processor, a thinner profile, bezel-free design, camera upgrades, and a more durable, sapphire screen.
A new operating system that the next iPhone will likely use is expected to debut at the 2014 WWDC this June.
