Microsoft Corp has confirmed it sold over five million Xbox One units to retailers since launching the console late last year.
In January, the software company said it sold over 3 million units in 2013.
The console went on sale on November 22 in 13 countries, like the United States, UK, and Australia, according to Reuters.
Microsoft also released Xbox One a week before Sony released its rival console, the PlayStation 4.
On April 16, Sony confirmed it sold over 7 million PlayStation 4 units as of April 6, according to Reuters.
The company said its device is so popular it's struggling to keep up with demand.
"Although we are still facing difficulties keeping up with the strong demand worldwide, we remain steadfast in our commitment to meet the needs of our customers," Andrew House, president and group chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment, said in the statement this week, according to Reuters.
Microsoft sells its Xbox One for a base price of $450, which is over $50 more than the $399 PS4.
To increase sales, Microsoft recently started offering a $450 bundle pack that included the game "Titanfall" for free with every Xbox One purchase.
