Google Chrome has a new extension that reveals any hidden Easter eggs squirreled away by developers and normally only seen by entering the Konami code.
The code combination (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start) unlocks goodies like cheats or special characters on certain video games, and developers have left similar surprises on some web pages, Yahoo Tech reported.
Konami Code Test & Discover automatically inputs the classic gamer's "open sesame" to reveal any Easter eggs hiding within the code. The new extension, which was developed by the Swiss marketing agency Suisseo, automatically triggers the gamer's code to unlock extras.
According to the extension's download page, Konami Code Test & Discover triggers the code a couple of seconds after the webpage loads and works only with http and https-served pages. Users can also go to the options page to exclude certain domains where the konami code should not be triggered.
"Originally a cheat code for power-ups in the NES 1985 arcade game Gradius, the Konami Code has become a symbol in geek culture, and has achieved success as an Easter egg on various websites," Mashable reported. "Thrown in by sneaky developers as a way to access extra content, games or just something fun, Konami Code Easter eggs have been found on Facebook, Marvel, ESPN.com and, most recently, Vogue UK's website."
Two sites that have some entertaining surprises revealed by the Konami code are BuzzFeed and Vogue UK, according to Yahoo Tech.
A complete list of sites with Konami code capabilities can be found at www.konamicodesites.com--but of course, you'll have to put in the Konami code to access it.
