Google-Owned Nest Stops Selling Fire Alarms

Nest has reportedly stopped sales of its Nest Protect fire alarm after the company learned that users could disable the device by waving their arms accidentally.

The company said Nest Wave allows users to wave their arms to deactivate the alarm, but it could also be activated unintentionally, according to BBC News.

Nest is a Google-owned company. The search engine company purchased Nest Labs back in January for $3.2 billion.

"We identified this problem ourselves and are not aware of any customers who have experienced this, but the fact that it could even potentially happen is extremely important to me and I want to address it immediately," said Nest chief executive Tony Fadell in the post. "We're enormously sorry for the inconvenience caused by this issue."

The company said in a blog post that users should disable Wave feature.

Current users of Nest Protect alarms will be offered refunds, and a repair could take somewhere between two to three months, according to Fadell.

Nest discovered the issue through its own testing according to BBC News.

No complaints have been received by the company yet regarding the issue.
