"Walking with Dinosaurs," the arena show featuring lifelike puppets the size of a car, is planning a return to North America for the first time since 2007.
When it comes back to the United States and Canada, "Walking with Dinosaurs, the Arena Spectacular" will have a new look, The Associated Press reported.
The people behind the show have decided to incorporate more feathers to keep up with the latest scientific findings.
"We've decided to bring them up to date," Philip Millar of Walking with Dinosaurs told the AP. "I've been going on about feathers for some years now. And now we've finally taken the leap and we're applying the feathers to the dinosaurs we're fairly confident had feathers."
A mother Tyrannosaurus Rex and her baby will be among the feathered dinosaurs, while the 36-foot tall, 56-foot long Brachiosaurus will be the biggest of the puppets, which can weigh as much as 1.6 tons and take three people to operate. The show will feature 20 dinosaurs from 10 species altogether.
The $20 million show, which started in Australia in 2007, is an important look into our planet's history, Millar said.
"Dinosaurs are deeply charismatic," he told the AP. "They are very deeply appealing to children. And so I think it's important that the curriculum around that is fact-based and the way evolution works and the way the history of the planet works."
As more studies find the serious implications of climate change, the disappearance of the dinosaurs can serve as a wakeup call.
"I mean, climate change killed the dinosaurs," Millar told the AP. "It wasn't just a meteor. The meteor precipitated making climate change which led to the extinction. So there's some fairly important lessons from these creatures."
The new tour will start in Cleveland at Quicken Loans Arena, running from July 9-13. The dinosaurs will then migrate to The Barclay's Center in New York City, staying from July 16-20, and then The Prudential Center in New Jersey from July 23-27. More stops are scheduled in Los Angeles, Kansas City, Montreal, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Milwaukee, Wis., the AP reported.
