A lineup of Chevrolet vehicles will feature Beats Music streaming as an app.
Select 2015 models, including the Chevrolet Cruze car and Chevrolet Colorado pickup, will have the Beats Music audio streaming through the new Chevrolet AppShop, Edmunds.com reported.
"Chevrolet will incorporate a version of Beats Music tailored for in-vehicle use," General Motors said in a statement, as reported by Edmunds. "A trial or paid Beats Music account will be required. Features that require a large amount of attention--such as those that use a keyboard--will be unavailable while the vehicle is in motion."
Later this year, GM will be incorporating high-speed 4G broadband connections for select 2015 models.
The AppShop will be standard for Chevrolet vehicles that have MyLink connectivity. GM reportedly plans to bring the AppShop to more Chevrolet vehicles in the future.
Other options in the MyLink AppShop include iHeartRadio, Slacker Radio, TuneIn Radio.
Motorists can access their favorite music through the Internet with Beats Music and other audio players. The AppShop options are designed for vehicle screens and intended to minimize distraction for drivers, who won't have to look at their smartphones, Edmunds reported.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Equinox, Impala, Malibu, Volt, Silverado and Silverado HD will also feature Beats Music, according to Edmunds.
Launched earlier this year, Beats Music works through a subscription fee and lets users personalize playlists or listen to curated music lists, according to USA TODAY.
The music service opened up its application programming interface to developers last week, allowing programmers to create apps for other platforms using the Beats Music catalog, Wired reported.
A subscription costs $120 a year and gives users something of a cross between Spotify and Pandora, mixing user music choices with careful algorithms for a good selection.
