Back in 1980, astrophysicist Carl Sagan successfully delivered the universe to homes around the U.S. through a 13-episode PBS series "Cosmos: A Personal Voyage." The series, co-written by his wife Ann Druyan and fellow astrophysicist Steven Soter, provided people of all ages a chance to explore space, astronomy, evolution.

Druyan and Soter are teaming up again only this time with "Family Guy" creator and "Ted" director Seth MacFarlane to help reach a new generation through a series titled "Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey."

"'Cosmos' is taking the story of the universe, and it's telling it so that everyone can feel it and enjoy it and be entertained by it," said Druyan, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

Sagan passed away in 1996 of pneumonia.

Well-known astrophysicist and cosmologists Neil DeGrasse Tyson will also be on hand this time for the project, which is set to air on the National Geographic Channel, and on FOX.

"Cosmos" is not dumbed down for Fox. It's a fascinating journey that, like the 1980 original, is not exactly your average documentary. It's a journey through science rather than a stuffy tutorial," said Tyson, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

The series will include updated versions of certain elements from the original series, like the Cosmic Calendar, and the Spaceship of the Imagination, according to FOX.

MacFarlane, who is a big fan of the original series, said these aspects were a must for the new one.

"I had always been a fan of Cosmos," MacFarlane said at a recent press event, according to ChannelGuideMagazine.com. "I met Neil through an organization that Jerry and Janet Zucker put together called The Science & Entertainment Exchange and found out he was working with Ann on doing a new Cosmos. And I thought that there was a strong possibility that this particular regime at FOX, as creative and open-minded as they are, would be receptive to the idea of doing the show on the network, and sure enough, they were."

The series airs Sundays on FOX starting March 9, and on Mondays on the National Geographic Channel starting March 10.
