Google threw its Glass users a curveball this month by not releasing a Glass update for the first time ever.
The company seems to have big plans for its Glass device, which will result in fewer but more significant updates, CNET reported via Glass Almanac.
The next step will likely be a switch from the Ice Cream Sandwich to the KitKat version of Android. Glass Guide Teresa Zazenski reportedly announced the news on Friday on a private forum for Glass users.
Google's eyeglass device is only available to a few select early adopters so far; the company plans to roll out Glass for mass production in the near future.
Zazenski promised Glass updates would still come on a regular basis, but she didn't specify a time frame on the KitKat switch. Google has been working to implement the KitKat system for Glass, but the update "isn't ready for primetime yet," she said.
"The pace isn't changing and we're still committed to regular updates for Glass--even if they're not monthly anymore, because bigger updates just take more time," Zazenski said in the online post, as reported by Glass Almanac.
"In fact, we're working to move Glass from Ice Cream Sandwich to Kit Kat to make the Glass experience smoother and just plain better. This change will make it easier for us to bring you more useful updates and it's something we're really excited about. Developers, we know you're gonna be excited, too. But it's also something that we don't want to send to you all until it's just right."
Glass has been updated every month with the exception of January, something that Google pre-announced, according to Glass Almanac.
