People looking for a quiet space in New York City can now try a Breather room. The Canadian startup that provides private rooms by the hour has launched more spaces in New York, PCWorld reported.
Operating in a way similar to Airbnb or Zipcar, Breather lets people rent rooms on demand for as little as half an hour or an entire day.
"Think of us as your second home or office, wherever and whenever you need it," said the company website.
Breather's New York rooms are available for $25 an hour with the first hour on the house, while spaces in Montreal cost $15 hourly. The company plans to branch out to more cities soon, including San Francisco, according to the Breather FAQ page.
Like many other things nowadays, Breather can be used through an app that can be downloaded onto a mobile device or accessed online. Users who reserve a space can open the app, click an icon to unlock the room and get an access code to open the door.
The spaces are minimally but comfortably furnished with desks, couches, chairs, wi-fi and a plethora of outlets. Breather seems to be focusing on the work environment angle, touting the rooms as comfortable, quiet office space.
Packy McCormick, Breather's New York City manager, told Gothamist that the spaces are handy for holding meetings, taking a nap or even doing yoga since each room holds a yoga mat.
The rooms are intended to be a place "just to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city for a little while," McCormick said.
Breather has rooms in SoHo and the Flatiron District and near Penn Station, with more coming soon. The app is currently compatible with iOS and has tens of thousands of downloads, Chief Executive Julien Smith told PCWorld.
