An unnamed buyer is reselling the shiny McLaren MP4-12C that was customized for Dwyane Wade's 30th birthday.
The vehicle, which literally has Wade's name on it, was gifted to the NBA star by The Collection, a luxury dealership based in Miami, FOX Sports reported.
Wade received the car in 2012 but later returned it, the dealership said in a statement as reported by CBS Sports.
"Dwyane Wade is not selling the McLaren THE COLLECTION gifted him for his 30th birthday," the company clarified in the statement. "He returned the car to THE COLLECTION in exchange for another vehicle."
The person who purchased the car is reportedly "flipping" it to be resold and wants a cool $799,000 for the custom vehicle. The Collection apparently didn't realize the new owner's intent when the deal was struck.
"The car is now being sold independently by an individual who bought the car used from our dealership," The Collection said in the statement. "We were not aware that the client intended to sell the car. We believed he would keep it for his personal collection. We sincerely value our relationship with Mr. Wade. He drives several of our luxury vehicles and [we] want to be clear that he has nothing to do with the online sale of this vehicle."
Complex had earlier reported that Wade himself was selling the vehicle, which generally goes for $239,000 brand-new.
This particular McLaren comes with the cachet of personalized Wade limited-edition plates, 4,272 miles driven by the Miami Heat Player, and an autographed seat that hopes the new buyer will "enjoy the car," FOX Sports reported.
The car was earlier reported as listed on the car gallery site duPont Registry, but the page now says the listing expired or was taken down.
