Ford has revealed a new in-car, voice-activated system that will list the closest restaurants for drivers whenever they say they're hungry.
Unveiled on Monday at the Mobile World Congress, the new technology will become a standard part of Ford's upcoming vehicles, Stephen Odell, Ford's EMEA CEO, told CNBC.
As part of the car's SYNC 2 functionality, the 8-inch display responds to a variety of voice commands to give motorists eatery recommendations, reviews and directions.
The system that scopes out nearby restaurants is part of the new Ford Focus, which also launched at this week's Mobile World Congress.
"People always want to be connected with their car and I think we are democratizing technology by making some of the features available on the Focus," Odell said of the new model, as reported by CNBC.
The updated Focus also includes an enhanced Blind Spot Information System to warn drivers while changing lanes and to prevent drivers from backing out from a parking spot into traffic.
"For instance, not only can you parallel park the car, you can perpendicular park the car and the technology in the car will enable you to come out of the parking space while looking around for any vehicles coming toward you," Odell explained.
The strides in user-friendly technology are excellent for the Ford brand, Odell said.
"Our brand strength continues to improve, actually enabled by technology-leading events like this with the most advanced car in the marketplace," he said, as quoted by CNBC. "We are absolutely on track."
Ford announced another software change this week, switching from Microsoft to Blackberry software for its Sync in-car mobile technology, The Wall Street Journal reported.
A Ford official said the shift would save money for the carmaker and result in a Ford in-car system that is easier for hardware makers and software developers to use.
