Justin Bieber faced arrest and charges for the second time in a week when he turned himself in to Toronto police on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a limo driver last month.
The 19-year-old pop star agreed to turn himself in about a month after the incident, which happened in the early morning on Dec. 30, CBC reported. Details on the altercation aren't clear; police said the driver picked up six people outside a nightclub and was hit on the head several times by a passenger, allegedly Bieber.
Reporters and screaming fans gathered outside the Toronto police department Wednesday to see the "Boyfriend" singer, who was escorted inside by several police officers. He reportedly left the building through the back door about two hours later.
According to Bieber's Canadian attorney, Brian Greenspan, the incident will likely be treated as a summary offense, which is the equivalent of a misdemeanor in the United States.
"Our position is that Mr. Bieber is innocent," he said in a written statement provided to CBC. "As the matter is now before the courts, it would be inappropriate to address the specifics of either the allegation or the defense at this time."
Bieber was arrested in Florida last week for allegedly drag racing on Miami Beach.
The singer was pulled over driving a yellow Lamborghini that was seen drag racing a Ferrari around 4 a.m. on Jan. 23 in a residential area.
Police said Bieber showed "signs of impairment" and failed a field sobriety test. He was then booked on a drunken driving charge.
He was additionally charged on resisting arrest without violence and driving on an expired license. The resisting arrest charge was added because Bieber reportedly refused to take his hands out of his pockets when an officer asked him to.
The driver of the Ferrari has been identified as 19-year-old singer and rapper Khalil Amir Sharieff.
