Ford confirmed this week that its 2014 Ford Focus has earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The gasoline version of the Focus earned five stars in the side crash test, four stars in the rollover test, and four stars in the frontal crash test.
The ratings also apply for the hatchback and sedan options of the Focus, according to the NHTSA.
Additionally, the 2014 Ford Focus Electric earned a perfect five-star score in the side crash test, the rollover test, and the frontal crash test.
The Focus competes with similar vehicles like the Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, and Toyota Corolla.
Ford has equipped the 2014 Focus with safety features like six airbags, antilock brakes, and traction control with electronic stability control, according to the automaker.
The 2014 Focus was also named a 2014 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The Focus received "good" ratings in all IIHS crash tests conducted by the IIHS, and an "acceptable" rating in the small overlap front crash test.
The small overlap front crash test was created to see how vehicles would handle if its front corner hits with another vehicle or an object like a tree, according to the IIHS.
