One student was injured during a shooting at South Carolina State University, according to Associated Press.
The shooting took place at an on-campus dorm, according to an alert sent out by the university. The campus was immediately placed on lockdown.
Police claim to know who fired the gun, and are looking for "four suspects" according to CNN.
Approximately 3,200 students attend the university, located in Orangeburg, which is 40 miles south of Columbia.
"The perimeter of the campus has been secured, but the suspects have not yet been apprehended. For this reason, the University has initiated a campus lockdown in the event the perpetrators attempt to return to the campus," said the university.
The shooting occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m.
South Carolina State University officials have not said whether or not the victim has died as a result of the shooting.
The student has been transported to a local hospital, according to NBC News.

"This agency is assisting the Sheriff's Office and we are actively engaged in a manhunt," Orangeburg Department of Public Safety Capt. Mike Adams told the newspaper.
This is the third incident to take place this week alone.
One person was shot and killed during an incident on Jan. 21 at Purdue University. Another student was injured during a shooting near a gym at Widener University near Philadelphia.
