Chevrolet has redesigned the classic Chevy Impala for improved aerodynamics and a quieter ride.
The iconic vehicle, which became part of the Chevy brand back in the 1950s, saw a complete redesign for the 2014 model year, according to a company press release.
The successful vehicle has been an important model for Chevrolet as both a reliable car and a piece of pop culture.
"The Impala has certainly had an illustrious past serving as not only a staple in transportation, but also as an American icon appearing in television and films like 'American Graffiti'," said the Chevrolet press release.
In another example, fans of the CW's "Supernatural" may know the 1967 black Chevy Impala, Sam and Dean Winchester's ride of choice.
The updated 2014 design may be the Impala's best look yet. A newly sleek exterior connotes youth while improving the car's aerodynamics and making for a smoother ride, said the press release.
"Flowing from bumper to bumper, the Impala uses muscular creases and curves that cut through the wind to promote a quiet and composed ride," Chevrolet said.
Inside, the updated Impala has new sound-quieting technology that includes acoustic glass, additional foam in the body panels and inlays in the floor.
The Impala is available with either a four-cylinder or a V-6 engine with the latter being the popular choice. The 3.6-liter V-6 engine produces more than 300 horsepower and can take the car from 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds, according to the press release.
The full-size sedan is also fuel-efficient, getting around 29 miles per gallon on the highway.
The Chevy Impala earned top marks for safety last summer in a national test.
The 2014 model received the highest possible five-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's New Car Assessment test.
Some of the Impala's safety features include crash imminent braking, forward collision alert, lane departure warning and side blind zone alert.
A rear vision camera, hill hold and start assist and ultrasonic rear park assist are also part of the car's base trim, according to GM.
