J.J. Abrams is a step closer to rebooting the "Star Wars" franchise.
The producer, writer and director kept his cards close to the vest at a recent press tour but did reveal that the "Star Wars: Episode VII" script has been completed, Entertainment Weekly reported.
"We're working really hard and we've got our script and we're in deep prep. Full steam ahead," Abrams told reporters after his panel at the Television Critics Association's press tour on Sunday.
The "Star Trek" and "Lost" director demurred on giving any further details and was vague when questioned about the upcoming film's length.
"I promise you it will be movie-length," Abrams said.
The rumors that Abrams met with Jesse Plemons, who played Todd on AMC's "Breaking Bad," proved to be true, but the meeting doesn't mean that Plemons will be part of the cast.
"He is one of the actors that we've talked to," Abrams said as quoted by EW. "But it's not often that I read about actors that I'm going to be meeting ... I get to read articles about actors who are going to come in. And so I get to see someone and say, 'Oh, I read that I was going to see you!' ... It's a lot of noise."
Abrams wouldn't say whether or not he's directing the next three "Star Wars" films himself, but he did tell reporter that "Episode VII" would be shot on film, not in IMAX format.
"In the right situation I would," Abrams said when asked about the IMAX possibility. "The problem with IMAX is it's a very loud camera. It's a very unreliable camera. Only so much film can be in the camera. You can't really do intimate scenes with it. It's slow, they break down often. Having said that, they're working on digital versions of these and so there may be a version one day ... but we're going to be shooting [Episode VII] on film."
