Apple is supposedly close to a deal with China Mobile, the world's largest mobile phone service, though the two sides are still negotiating, according to AFP.
The Wall-Street Journal, citing an unnamed source, reported that the two companies had finalized a deal to add iPhones to the telecom firm's roster of devices by the end of the month. China Mobile denied the report however.
"Talks between China Mobile and Apple on cooperation are still going on and we currently do not have anything to announce," the company's spokeswoman Rainie Lei said, according to AFP.
China Mobile has 759.3 million subscribers, according to The Wall-Street Journal.
Discussions have been going on between the two companies for a number of years, with the one major roadblock being China Mobile's request for sales volume guarantees.
"We are still negotiating with Apple, but for now we have nothing new to announce," Lei said, according to Reuters.
Apple has declined comment as of press time.
China Mobile is supposedly excited to get the chance to sell iPhones globally, which would help increase the company's "edge" over smaller rivals China Telecom and China Unicom, according to AFP.
Apple CEO Tim Cook recently spoke about the company's financial results so far this year.
"We had a pretty good quarter in China," Apple CEO Tim Cook said recently in a statement. "We obviously want to do better."
If this is true, then a deal with China Mobile definitely couldn't hurt.
