Nissan has confirmed that its new Bladeglider concept will debut at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Show.
The automaker has called the vehicle an "exploratory prototype of an upcoming production vehicle," according to a company press release.
The production model of the concept vehicle will easily be one of the more unique looking EVs available due to its body, which makes it look like a futuristic racecar.
"I think there are elements we can bring from the race track to make these future road cars more exciting, more fulfilling and give greater driving pleasure," said Ben Bowlby, director of Nissan Motorsport Innovation, in a statement on Friday.
The vehicle's front wheels are so close together in order to reduce drag and to enhance maneuverability, according to Nissan.
A production version of the Bladeglider may come equipped with in-wheel drive motors, which would be a first for Nissan.
"The in-wheel motors provide rear-wheel propulsion with independent motor management, while also contributing to freedom of upper body design and space-efficient packaging," Nissan said.
The cockpit fits three people in a triangular configuration, and the driver's seat automatically slides laterally when the door is opened. This was designed by Nissan to allow easy access to the passenger seats.
