Honda is recalling 344,000 Odyssey minivans in the U.S. to address a software issue that can cause the vehicle to brake unexpectedly in certain conditions.
The recall covers 2007-08 model years, according to a Honda press release.
The Japanese automaker said this weekend that an issue can cause hydraulic pressure to build in the braking system after an engine restart. The reported buildup can suddenly be "released," causing unexpected braking without the vehicle's brake lamps coming on.
No crashes or injuries have occurred relating to the issue have been reported to Honda.
Honda is instructing dealers to replace a "yaw sensor" but the part won't be available until early 2014.
"Owners of affected Odysseys will receive an initial notification by mail informing them of the recall and the steps they can take at vehicle startup to help ensure proper VSA system calibration," Honda said in a press release.
Once the part is available, owners will receive a second letter letting them know to take their vehicle to a dealership to have the problem fixed, free of charge.
Until the part is available, Honda has issued instructions on its recall website on how to drive to prevent the problem from happening.
