The Jonas Brothers have broken up, deciding to dissolve the band three weeks after they canceled a 19-date tour.
"It's over for now," Kevin Jonas, 25, told PEOPLE.
The news is disappointing but hardly a shock for fans after the band recently canceled a tour two days before it was scheduled to begin.
Their spokesman said there was "a deep rift within the band," and the brothers couldn't agree on their musical direction. The band's Twitter account was also recently deleted.
The Jonas Brothers, who rose to fame under the Disney umbrella with such hits as "When You Look Me in the Eyes" and "Burnin' Up" as well as roles in the "Camp Rock" movies, agreed that calling it quits was the right thing to do for now.
"It's really hard to say 'forever,'" said Nick Jonas, 21. "We're closing a chapter, for sure."
"It was a unanimous decision," said Joe Jonas, 24.
The breakup came after a meeting on Oct. 3, where Nick Jonas confessed to his brothers that he had serious concerns about the future of the band.
"I was feeling kind of trapped," he said. "I needed to share my heart with my brothers."
There is still no word on what will happen to "V," the band's fifth record, which was scheduled for release this fall. Singles "Pom Poms" and "First Time dropped earlier this year.
The Jonas Brothers sold more than 20 million albums worldwide after signing with Hollywood Records in 2007. The band's last record was "Lines, Vines and Trying Times" in 2009.
The brothers have each pursued other projects during the band's hiatus. Nick and Joe released solo albums and pursued acting careers, while Kevin and his wife Danielle have starred in their own reality series, E!'s "Married to Jonas."
Fans sounded off on Twitter after hearing the news.
