Audi Recall: 3,594 S6 And S7 Vehicles Called Back Over Fire Concerns

Oct 28, 2013 01:05 PM EDT | Matt Mercuro

Volkswagen is recalling approximately 3,594 Audi S6 and S7 cars in the U.S. because a fuel line leak could cause a fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The cars were manufactured from June 25, 2012 to May 29, 2013 and from May 23, 2013 to September 6, 2013.

"Due to manufacturing tolerance issues, a fuel line may leak," said the NHTSA in its summary of the issue. "A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, may result in a fire."

The affected vehicles are equipped with the 4.0-liter TFSI engine.

Audi AG received a number of customer complaints back in April about a fuel smell in the affected vehicles. After an investigation, Audi determined that the fuel line in the S6 and S7 vehicles could become damaged over time, increasing the chance of a fire.

Audi dealers will be instructed to replace the fuel line, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin before the end of October.
