Casting Ben Affleck as the new Batman resulted in a media blitz of outrage from fans. But the worst indictment of all--toward the actor and the character--may have come from Quentin Tarantino.
The "Pulp Fiction" director recently told the French weekly Les Inrockuptibles that he had no opinion either way but wished Affleck good luck.
"I have to admit that I don't really have an opinion," he told the French publication in an interview translated by IndieWire.com's The Playlist. "Why? Because Batman is not a very interesting character. For any actor.
"There is simply not much to play. I think Michael Keaton did it the best, and I wish good luck to Ben Affleck. But you know who would have made a great Batman? Alec Baldwin in the '80s."
According to a Screenrant.com article, Baldwin was among the many actors in the running to play Batman in his 1989 Tim Burton-directed incarnation, which went to Michael Keaton.
Mel Gibson, Bill Murray, Jake Gyllenhaal, Cillian Murphy and Hugh Dancy have all been considered to play Batman over the years.
Within the first 12 hours of the announcement that Affleck would play the beloved Caped Crusader in the upcoming "Batman vs. Superman," 30 different petitions were launched on Change.org demanding that Warner Bros. dump Affleck, the New York Daily News reported.
After the news, fans sounded off on Twitter with the trending hashtag "#BetterBatmanThanBenAffleck."

While much of the social media discussion was negative, an Access Hollywood poll showed fans divided 50/50.
"Batman vs. Superman" is slated for a summer 2015 release. Directed by Zack Snyder, whose credits include "Man of Steel" and "300," the film will also star Henry Cavill as Superman and Amy Adams as Lois Lane as they reprise their roles from this year's "Man of Steel.
