Catastrophic Climate Change Expected in 30 Years (VIDEO)

The new study published by the University of Hawaii on Oct. 9 in the newest issue of "Journal" discussed the fact that by 2047 historic temperature levels will surpass records from set in 1865.

One of the key points mentioned in the study is that the coldest temperatures on Earth will be higher than the current hottest temperatures.

"The result shocked us. Regardless of the scenario, changes will be coming soon. Within my generation, whatever climate we were used to will be a thing of the past," said Lead researcher Camilo Mora in a press statement.

Researchers examined 29 different Earth System models developed by 21 climate centers in 12 countries, according to the study.

Evaporation, precipitation, ocean surface temperature and pH levels were all observed and results were documented in the study.

In places like Indonesia, dramatic climate changes are expected as early as 2020. Tropical locations will be impacted first, along with locations with the least economic capability to "react" according to the study.

In the U.S., Phoenix and Honolulu will be first locations to experience changes, followed by Orlando and San Diego in 2046.

New York, Washington, and Los Angeles are all expected to see changes by 2047.

"We are used to the climate that we live in. With this climate change what is going to happen is we're going to be moving outside this comfort zone," said Mora to NBC News.

Somewhere between 1 and 5 billion people will be living in locations with an unprecedented climate by 2050.

Catastrophic changes are irreversible, and can only be changed 20 years even if greenhouse gas emissions are eventually stabilized, according to Mora.

"It is going to be uncomfortable for us as humans and it will be very uncomfortable for species as well," Mora said.

This means some species will have to adapt to different living environments or find new habitats. Some species are not expected to survive the changes.
