2014 Corvette Stingray Production Will Not Increase Despite High Demand

Despite the already high demand for the 2014 Corvette Stingray, General Motors has announced it has no plans to increase production.

The news will certainly frustrate a lot of Stingray fans, as the current wait period for a Stingray is already up to six months, according to GM.

Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter recently said that the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, which is the only plant producing the new Corvette, will continue to only make 160 units per day.

"We've seen this again and again. You bring out a new Corvette and the demand is sky-high at the beginning, and then it tapers off," said Juechter, in a press statement. "It's not worth making that investment (of a second shift), even though for a while we make a lot more money getting those cars out there."

The base price for the new Corvette coupe is approximately $51,995, and $56,995 for the convertible. It's believed people are paying a lot more to be placed higher on the waiting list to receive their car sooner.

GM sent the first shipment of Corvettes towards the end of Sept. People are spending close to $20,000 more to receive there Stingray earlier.

Public tours at the Bowling Green facility to see how the new Corvette is made will pick up again starting Oct. 14, according to GM.

The Bowling Green plant underwent a $131-million upgrade in order to handle production of the Stingray, which is expected to be a very popular vehicle.
