At least 33 people were taken to a local hospital after an out-of-service Chicago Transit Authority train crashed head-on with another train stopped at a Forest Park, Illinois station.
CTA spokeswoman Lambrini Lukidis said the victims were taken to nine different hospitals with "non-life-threatening injuries" according to USA Today.
"We were stopped at Harlem and then we hear like a big boom sound and everyone started flying out of their seats," said passenger Lyneisha Fields according to USA Today.
The 18-year-old said she was taken to a nearby hospital's emergency room because she was hit the back of her head on a metal bar while on the train.
One of the sections of the train car was completely crushed, "like an accordion," according to a witness.
"We have no indication at this point that there has been any criminal activity, but we are doing a thorough investigation. Everything that is a possibility is being looked at," Chicago Transit Authority spokesman Brian Steele said according to ABC News.
The train was going 20 mph when it hit, according to Steele.
The CTA and Forest Park police have said that no criminal activity or foul play has been suspected, according to Robert Kelly, president of Local 308 of the Amalgamated Transit Union.
"We're clearly investigating as to the cause of the incident," Lukidis said, including why both trains were on the same track.
The crash took place around 7:45 a.m. on the Blue Line in a town 10 miles west of Chicago.
