Nissan has launched a smartwatch capable of monitoring the performance of a vehicle as well as the vehicle's driver, called the Nissan Nismo.

The Nismo can perform a number of different tasks like measure a person's heart rate and temperature, according to BBC News.

Experts also predict that the watch will play an important role towards connecting people with their vehicles.

"Connectivity is the new battleground for car manufacturers," said Chas Hallett, editor-in-chief of What Car? according to BBC News. "In-car internet is coming and now with consumer electronics focusing on watch-based connections, Nissan is getting ahead of the game and joining the two together very cleverly."

The watch can be connected to a vehicle's on-board computer system to let "users monitor vehicle telematics and other performance data" according to BBC News. People can also get messages from Nissan by using the watch.

The watch is expected to make an appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show which begins on Sept. 12 and runs through Sept. 22.

"Wearable technology is fast becoming the next big thing and we want to take advantage of this innovative technology," said Gareth Dunsmore, marketing communications general manager at Nissan, Europe, according to BBC News.

Drivers will also be able to check the efficiency of their vehicle with average speed and fuel consumption rates.

The watch uses a lithium battery which can be charged by micro-USB, with a battery life of over seven days, according to Nissan.
