100-Vehicle Crash: Truck Driver Prevents More Injuries by Blocking Bridge Entrance (VIDEO)

A 130 car pileup closed the Sheppey Bridge in the U.K. for over nine hours after at least 200 people needed medical assistance.

More people could have been hurt however if it wasn't for the actions of a truck driver, according to eCanadaNow.com.

The unidentified truck driver saved many lives after he used his truck to block the bridge's entrance.

"He was going the other way and what he managed to do, which has probably saved lives, is he's gone down to the end of the carriageway, gone across the roundabout and actually blocked off the road so no more cars could actually enter the dual carriageway before the emergency services got there," said Chris Buckingham, to Sky News.

No fatalities have been reported as of press time.

For 10 straight minutes, one car smashed into one another according to BBC News.

"It's horrific. I've never seen anything like it in my life," said Martin Stammers, a driver involved in the crash, to Kent Online. "All you could hear was cars crashing. We got out of our car and it was eerily quiet, with visibility down to just 20 yards. It must have been going on for five to 10 minutes."

Of the people injured, 35 had to go to the hospital for more medical assistance.

At least five people had to be pried out of their vehicles by firefighters.

Police have yet to figure out what officially caused the crash, but most believe the incident occurred thanks to an early morning thick fog.

"It was very hazardous. It was described to me as a very thick fog and it was certainly low visibility at the time," said Inspector Andy Reeves, according to BBC News.

More information regarding the crash is expected to be released next week.
