Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed plans for a cross-country trip this week which he will be taking, with his family, by driving a Model S.
The trip will take approximately six days, and over 3,200 miles according to Musk. He failed to mention when the trip will begin and end.
During the trip he expects to only to spend nine hours total charging his Model S. He estimated 1.5 hours will be spent charging every day.
Musk only plans on stopping for food and sightseeing, meaning he won't be looking for a gas station with the cheapest price.
Don't think for a second that Musk isn't trying to make a statement with this announcement. While the family trip may be the official reason he's going to NYC, he's also trying to prove to those who still have doubts about the Model S that it can survive long trips, not just a drive to a local grocery store.
Tesla has been all-over the news the past couple of months. Recently, the automaker announced that they had installed six supercharger stations in Europe.
Musk announced the news on his Twitter account on Sept. 5, saying he'll be taking his family from Los Angeles to New York City.
The Model S also recently earned a record safety rating from the NHTSA last month.
