A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Alaska's Aleutian Islands on Aug. 31, according to the Associated Press.

There have been no reports of damage or injuries caused by the earthquake as of press time.

"I heard it coming," said Kathleen Nevzoroff, who was sitting at her computer in the tiny Aleutians village when the earthquake occurred, according to the Associated Press. "I ran to my doors and opened them and my chimes were all ringing."

The quake was "strongly felt" in Atka, and Adak, where approximately 384 people live.

Multiple aftershocks were felt after the earthquake was over, including one measuring magnitude 5.4.

"At this point, we've seen no ocean-surface disturbance," said Bill Knight, a scientist at the tsunami warning center in Palmer, Alaska, according to Reuters.

The Alaska Earthquake Information Center said the quake was centered 67 miles southwest of Adak, and 1,200 southwest of Anchorage.

Fortunately the earthquake didn't cause a tsunami warning, but Michael Burgy from the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska, said "the center is monitoring for potential tsunamis caused by landslides" according to the Associated Press.

"I thought it was my dog running up the stairs," said Adak city clerk Debra Sharrah who was in her two-story townhome when she heard the earthquake, according to the Associated Press. "It kept making noise and then it got louder. So then all of a sudden the rumbling started."
