Most people don't expect to receive a new car from Toyota during a family barbecue, but that's exactly what happened to NYPD veteran Michael Dee.
Dee became Toyota's 50 millionth customer recently when he purchased a Camry from Millennium Toyota in Hempstead, N.Y., according to a company press release.
To commemorate the milestone, Toyota worked with Dee's family to surprise him at the family event in Levittown, N.Y.
As Dee was grilling, Toyota executive Bill Fay snuck in the backyard and presented Dee with the title for the Camry he purchased and the keys to a brand-new 2013 RAV4.
"I don't know what say!" said Dee. "This is phenomenal. I can't explain how much this means to my family and how grateful we are to Toyota! The whole 'thank you' thing just doesn't seem to cut it. It's a day I'll never forget."
Fay then took a stunned Dee to his driveway where the new car was waiting.
Dee will be celebrating his 20th year with the NYPD this year as well according to Toyota.
"We're so grateful to our customers in the U.S. on helping us achieve such a huge milestone for our company," said Fay, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. group vice president and general manager of the Toyota Division, in a press statement. "To be able to thank our 50 millionth customer in person, one of New York City's finest, no less, was also a great honor to me personally. By the way, the barbecue was great."
