Ford has announced it will release its popular Fiesta ST model in North America by the end of this summer.
The Fiesta ST has strictly been a European car before now, but since sales have been so good overseas the automaker is confident it will sell well in other locations like North America.
Interested customers can expect a starting price of $22,195, including a $795 destination fee according to The Detroit Free Press.
The first-generation Fiesta was only offered in Europe, but the second-generation will be made available in over 40 different countries. Canada, China, and the U.S. are among the 40 Ford listed this week.
Ford equipped the ST with a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, the same engine that helps Ford Fusion and Escape models run. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission according to Ford.
Ford claims the ST can go 0 to 60 in just 6.9 seconds.
Expect the vehicle to get 26 mpg in city driving, 35 mpg on the highway, and produce 197 hp, 202 lb.-ft. of torque.
The North American model will be a five-door hatchback compared to the smaller three-door option sold in Europe according to The Detroit Free Press.
North American vehicles will be produced in Cuautitlan, Mexico.
The ST first went on sale in Europe this past spring and sales have far exceeded expectations according to Jamal Hameedi, director of engineering for global performance vehicles.
