A Houston couple was shocked to learn that the baby monitor in their child's room was hacked by a man who was verbally abusing their 2-year-old.

Marc Gilbert said he was doing dishes after his birthday when he heard a strange voice coming from his daughter's room.

He then discovered the voice was coming from the baby monitor according to CBS News. The hacker even took control of the monitor's camera, and knew the baby's name since it appears on one of the walls in the child's room.

The hacker yelled at Gilbert and wife, using curse words in a "British or European" The hacker yelled at Gilbert and wife, using curse words in a "British or European" accent according to Gilbert.

"At that point I ran over and disconnected it and tried to figure out what happened," Gilbert said according to ABC News.

The father was able to do some research and is positive the man hacked his home internet router, which allowed him access to the baby monitor and camera.

Now he's worried how long the hacking has been going on and how it was allowed to occur in the first place.

'It's quite possible that this had been going on more than one day. Security vulnerabilities exist," said Gilbert according to ABC News.

Luckily the child slept through the most recent incident, and the couple's 3-year-old son also managed not to hear the hacker as well.

The experience has scared the couple so much that they're going to stop using the monitor that Gilbert said they "couldn't live without" at one point.

'I don't think it ever will be connected again,' Gilbert said according to ABC News.
