The 2014 Ford F-150 will be released this fall that runs on compressed natural gas.

The vehicle will be offered with a gaseous-fuel prep package that allows it to run on compressed natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas according to Edmunds.

The option is available on the 2014 F-150 with a 3.7-liter V6 engine.

The CNG/LPG engine package allows the F-150 to achieve 750 miles on one tan of gas according to Ford.

The EPA has yet to release any information about the CNG package as of press time.

"Businesses and fleet customers have been asking Ford to make F-150 available with CNG capability to take advantage of the fuel's low price and clean emissions," said Jon Coleman, Ford fleet sustainability and technology manager in a press statement according to CNN.

The CNG/LPG engine prep option will cost around $315 before a customer chooses a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier "to supply fuel tanks, fuel lines and unique fuel injectors" according to Edmunds.

The 2013 F-150 2WD model equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission returns 22 mpg on the highway and 16 mpg in city driving, according to estimates by the EPA.

Ford will now have eight vehicles available to run on CNG/ LPG. Other vehicles include the F-Series Super Duty pickup, and the Transit Connect van and wagon.

There are 596 CNG stations in the U.S., excluding private stations, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

Ford said it sells CNG for an average $2.11 per gallon of gasoline equivalent and is as low as $1 in select locations across the country, "representing a significant savings over unleaded regular fuel."
