A Hong Kong man lost his house this week due to a fire after his Samsung Galaxy S4 exploded.

The man and his wife were able to get out of the house on time, but all of their things were destroyed in the blaze.

The couple's Mercedes was also damaged in the fire according to a Chinese news site Xianguo.com.

The man was reportedly playing the game "Love Machine," on his Samsung Galaxy S3 when heard a loud "pop" noise coming from the phone's battery.

The phone reportedly exploded, causing the man to throw it on his couch. A few minutes later the fire spread throughout the house.

Samsung is conducting its own probe into the incident according to the Huffington Post.

The company is going to analyze the chemicals "present" at the scene. Samsung is going to look to see if any chemicals identified at the scene could have come from the battery unit.

This is the second major incident to involve a smartphone malfunction.

On July 18, Ma Ailun, 23, was electrocuted when she took a call on her Apple device while it was charging according to Reuters.

Ailun's older sister Sina Weibo said in blog post that her sister was planning her August wedding when she fell to the floor after taking a call on her smartphone.

The iPhone 5 was purchased back in December at an Apple Store and Ailun was using an official Apple charger when she was electrocuted according to the blog post.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of this tragic incident and offer our condolences to the (Ailun) family," said Apple in the press statement. "We will fully investigate and cooperate with authorities in this matter."
