Director James Wan said this week that he is going to approach "Fast & Furious 7" as a genre piece according to Indiewire.com.

Wan is taking over for Justin Lin who transformed the "Fast and Furious" franchise into a multi-million dollar blockbuster. Lin handpicked Wan for the next film despite his horror film background.

"I really like the theme of this next one that we're going with. I can't really talk about it, but I like the theme; it's one that I really relate to," Wan said according to Indiewire.com.

Wan is currently in the middle of filming the sequel to "Insidious."

Filming for "Fast and Furious 7" is set to begin in September according to actress Michelle Rodriguez while on the show "Cafecito."

Wan plans to film in places like Tokyo and select locations in the Middle East according to actor Vin Diesel.

"There's the drive of Number Seven, which was set up at the end of Number Six, which is a classic revenge story," said Wan to Indiewire.com "I'm a big (genre) fan, so that's how I'm approaching it: I'm looking at it like a gritty, '70s revenge thriller, but one that still fits into the "Fast and Furious" series."

Wan has also directed the Kevin Bacon thriller "Death Sentence" according to IMDB.

The movie is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2014.
