A special ad featuring the new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado is set to air near the final round of the Chevrolet Home Run Derby on ESPN.
An extended version of "Strong," which features an original song by Grammy-nominated artist Will Hoge will be shown during the derby, and the new spot called "Her Horse" will be shown during the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on July 16 on FOX according to a GM press release.
Chevrolet has been the official vehicle sponsor of MLB since 2005 and is a first-time sponsor of the Home Run Derby which features hitters from the American against National League.
Each hitter will be swinging for the fences to benefit designated charities and the winning hitter also receives a new Silverado full-size pickup.
"Major League Baseball All-Star week is a perfect platform for the Silverado," said Tim Mahoney, Global Chevrolet chief marketing officer in a press statement.
The 2013 AL participants include:
- Robinson Cano-New York Yankees
- Chris Davis-Baltimore Orioles
- Prince Fielder- Detroit Tigers
- Yoenis Cespedes-Oakland A's
The 2013 NL participants include:
- David Wright- New York Mets
- Pedro Alvarez- Pittsburgh Pirates
- Bryce Harper- Washington Nationals
- Michael Cuddyer- Colorado Rockies
Cano was named captain of the AL Home Run Derby team, where as Wright was named captain of the NL team.
Fielder won the event in 2009 and 2012, and Cano won in 2011. Wright made the finals of the 2006 derby before losing to Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Davis is currently the odds-on favorite to win the 2013 derby 11-4. Alvarez was named a replacement for Carlos Gonzalez who exited the derby with an injury.
For each Gold Ball home run hit by a participant after the ninth out, Chevrolet and MLB will combine to donate $23,000 to charities including Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The two organizations will combine to make another donation of $3,000 for every non-Gold Ball home run hit during the 2013 Chevrolet Home Run Derby.
Each of the eight sluggers will be paired up with one kid representing one of the eight local RBI leagues through the New York City area. The child paired with the winner of the derby will receive $50,000 towards a new baseball field for their RBI league.
Chevrolet will also donate $10,000 worth of baseball equipment and uniforms to each of the other seven leagues.
