Police shot a man accused of killing a woman during a shootout this week in Middleboro, Massachusetts. The man is reportedly still alive according to The Boston Globe.

After refusing to put down his weapon, police shot Thomas Buttimer, 52, and transported him to a hospital. Police confirmed that the suspect is expected to recover.

"When police told him several times to drop the weapon, he did not comply and was pointing the weapon at police. He was then shot by police," a spokesperson for Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz's office said according to the Globe.

The woman was later identified as 65-year-old Norma DesRoche according to Plymouth County District Attorney spokeswoman Bridget Norton Middleton.

DesRoche was shot in her chest and was found in front of her house. Her husband and another man tried to revive her to no avail.

The shooter was reportedly living in the victim's home, which is registered in the husband's name according to The Enterprise.

"We heard like fifteen gunshots one right after the other," said neighbor Tlyer Lambert according to The Enterprise. "It was powerful enough that it shook this door. "It shook the windows. Then all the sudden there was like 17 cop cars."

Buttimer was charged with assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm.

Anyone with information regarding the murder can contact investigators at 508-947-8087.
