Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale Auction made history this year, raking in a total sales of $203.2 million. Barrett-Jackson managed to reach that record-breaking amount thanks largely to its exclusive offerings, including the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing and the very first production unit of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

A grand total of 1,857 vehicles were featured in this year's Scottsdale Auction, and they were in high demand. The cars that went up for auction recorded an accumulative sales total of $195.9 million. Historic and special automotive memorabilia and collectors' items brought in the remaining $7.3 million, making the 2022 Scottsdale auction the most successful event in Barrett-Jackson's five-decade history.

Barrett-Jackson also confirmed that the Scottsdale event achieved a 100% sell-through rate, including over 140 record-breaking auctions. Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson was delighted with his organization's masterful showing, saying, "Our Scottsdale Auction set an unprecedented pace with record-setting prices and produced the energy that reengaged our hobby."

Scottsdale event nets several world auction records

Jackson added that the immersive experience they create is truly the heart and soul of the collector car community. Jackson noted that they saw incredible growth at every turn, even beating their own world auction records by double-digit percentages over the past week.

However, what made Jackson proud was that the organization's Scottsdale auction turned into the new "Autoshow 2.0." According to Jackson, the Scottsdale event has now become a place for "manufacturers to introduce, exhibit, and give high-performance thrill rides, as well as auction their vehicles, giving guests a 360-degree experience."

2004 Porsche Carrera GT and Mercedes-Benz SL300 Gullwing top sales

The biggest non-charitable seller in this event was a 2004 Porsche Carrera GT with chassis number 0123. The new owner paid $1.98 million to acquire this 2004 Porsche Carrera GT, which only has 1,547 miles on the clock. Coming in a close second was the aforementioned Mercedes-Benz SL300 Gullwing, which sold for $1.87 million.

This particular Gullwing was first ordered by Cuba's Ministry of Police in Havana after leaving Mercedes-Benz's production line on June 16, 1955. The Gullwing then found itself in the hands of professional race car driver Santiago "Chaquito" Gonzales before being sold in 1961 to the current owner in the United States.

Other vehicles that brought over $1.2 million in the Scottsdale auction include modern collectibles such as the McLaren Senna, Three Ford GTs (including two Heritage Editions), the McLaren P1, the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6, and the Porsche 918 Spyder. The only other classic car in sales that landed in the top 10 is the 1967 Shelby Cobra 427 CSX.

Barrett-Jackson made sure the event also gave back to charity, with this year's Scottsdale auction raising $8.8 million for charitable causes. The Corvette Z06 fetched $3.6 million, while a 2023 Ford Bronco Heritage Edition netted $500,000 for the Pope Francis Center. Barrett-Jackson has now been able to put together $144 million for various organizations worldwide since the fund was established.
